“Theneed to the necessity of Hojjat” means a feeling of deep and continuous need for the (existence of) authority of God on earth, which is one of the deep beliefs in the domain of Shi’a philosophy; however, its “position” and “function” is not explained in the culture of waiting yet. This paper investigates these two issues with an analytic-descriptive approach. The appointment of Imam and the assumption of purely following those in authority by the Lord, emphasis on knowing the Imam and simultaneous adherence to the Qur’an and the People of the House by the Prophet are all a wise provision for humans to perceive their need to the Divine authorities based on their knowledge of such sacred essences and the understanding of their position and function in the universe. Such understanding can stimulate human’s passion for the appearance of the absent Imam and the establishment of the generous government and force them to self-development and preparation of the ground for the appearance.
