Journal Article 2026 01 10 <em>Agents of the Hidden Imam</em> represents one of the latest contributions by Western academia regarding the exploration of the roles and responsibilities of the Four Deputies and other representatives (<em>wakils</em>) during the era of Minor Occultation (<em>al-Ghayba al-Sughra</em>). In this work, Edmund Hayes delineates the socio-religious conditions of the Shia community from the time just before the onset of the Minor Occultation until its conclusion. He examines the lives and contributaions of prominent Shii figures, focusing specifically on the Four Deputies, asserting that the doctrine of the "Envoyship" (<em>sifāra</em>) was predominantly constructed by Muhammad b. Uthman al-Amri. The present study, while summerizing Hayes' viewpoints, seeks to pinpoint and examine his significant shortcomings or inaccuracies in both methodological and substantive dimensions through a critical-analytical approach. Methodological critiques encompass the influence of inherent biases, dependance on unreliable sources, and the arbitrary selection of hadiths. Furthermore, substantive criticisms pertain to a core miscomprehension of Shii doctrines, the presentation of unverifiable or vague assertions, the erroneous interpretation of classical narrations and historical reports, as well as inconsistencies within the author’s reasoning. <span dir="RTL" lang="FA">کتاب «کارگزاران امام غایب» از جمله آخرین نگاشته‌های محققان غربی در مورد نقش و کارکردهای سفرای چهارگانه و دیگر وکیلان در عصر غیبت صغری است. ادموند هیز در این کتاب، در کنار توصیف اوضاع شیعه کمی پیش از آغاز تا انتهای دوران غیبت صغری، به زندگی و عملکرد افراد و شخصیت‌های مهم شیعه در این دوران و به طور خاص سفرای چهارگانه می‌پردازد و ادعا می‌کند باور سفارت توسط جناب محمد بن عثمان شکل گرفته است. نگاشته پیش رو، علاوه بر توصیف دیدگاه ادموند هیز در کتاب مذکور، درصدد است اشکالات مهم او را در دو حیطه روشی و محتوایی به روش پیمایش و تحلیل انتقادی ارائه کند. لحاظ پیش‌فرض‌های ذهنی، استفاده از منابع مشکوک و گزینش دل‌بخواهانه احادیث، از جمله نقدهای روشی و عدم فهم باورهای شیعی، ارائه ادعاهای بدون پشتوانه یا غیردقیق، فهم اشتباه روایات و گزارش‌های کهن و نیز وجود برخی ادعاهای تناقض‌آمیز از جمله نقدهای محتوایی وارد بر کار ادموند هیز است.</span> https://www.entizar.ir/article_244391_1e40950109806fb61a681b35e138e392.pdf
