Semantic Re-exploration and Analysis of Conceptual Scope, Analysis of Conceptual Breadth of Ghaibat (Occultation) in Mahdism Doctorine

This research aims to Re-examine and semantically analyze the concept of Ghaibat (occultation) in Mahdism, focusing on the traditions (hadiths) of the infallible Imams (peace be upon them). The abundance and diversity of hadiths related to the occultation of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) and the various interpretations offered have led to the arising of different conceptions regarding the meaning of ghaybat. This divergence of views raises a fundamental question for the researcher: Why did the Infallible Imams (peace be upon them) refer to a time in the life of Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance) with the term "ghaybat"? This article, adopting a descriptive-analytical and critical approach, comprehensively examines and analyzes the hadiths related to the concept of Ghaibat. The research findings indicate that the Imam's Ghaibat, contrary to close readings that restrict it to merely "the concealment of the body" or "the concealment of the title" is a multifaceted and dynamic concept that manifests itself in different forms according to specific needs and circumstances. In circumstances involving grave danger to the life of the Imam, ghaybat is total invisibility and is accomplished through divine will.whereas in safer conditions, Ghaibat appears as anonymity and lack of public recognition. Equating these two forms of Ghaibat in all circumstances, given the existing narrations, is not defensible. This research, by offering a novel and comprehensive analysis of the concept of Ghaibat, takes a step towards resolving ambiguities and providing a more precise elucidation of this key concept in Mahdism.
