In the discourse of the Islamic Revolution, the family is considered the primary locus for nurturing the awaiting generation and laying the groundwork for the New Islamic Civilization. However, the emergence of deviant Mahdist currents has seriously challenged the civilizational role of this institution. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach and employing the theoretical framework of symbolic interactionism, this study investigates how such currents affect the disintegration of the structure of the Mahdavi family. The findings reveal that deviant currents, by infiltrating three levels—cognition, orientation, and action—erode the family’s system of meaning. At the cognitive level, they weaken religious rationality by distorting such key symbols as awaiting and wilayah. At the level of orientation, through reshaping reference groups, they redirect emotional attachments from family and society toward the deviant sect. Finally, at the level of action, by promoting isolationism, fabricating pseudo-rituals, and sacralizing abnormal forms of behavior, they remove the family from the course of civilizational agency. It can thus be concluded that these currents, by transforming dynamic awaiting into destructive awaiting, turn the family into the very opposite of its proper function within the framework of Islamic civilization.
