Numerous narrations have illustrated the application of Qur’anic verses to contexts beyond the original occasion of their revelation. Such narrations are referred to as “jary narrations.” This particular attribute of the Qur’an, known as the “principle of jary and application,” guarantees the Qur’an’s perpetual relevance. This study examines and analyzes the typology of jary narrations pertinent to Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him). Initially, we extract these narrations from exegetical reports; then we analyze them. Ultimately, after applying a descriptive-analytical method to our research, we determine that the jary narrations applied to Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) can be divided into three categories:
Narrations that indicate an instance of the unrestricted or general interpretation of a verse across time; In this category, terms such as “the unseen” (ghayb) and “the age” (‘asr) are ascribed to Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him). Narrations that denote the most complete instance of the unrestricted or general interpretation of a verse over time; Here, terms such as “remain steadfast” (rābiṭū), “punishment” (‘adhāb), “one who recognizes signs” (mutawassim), “authority” (sulṭān), “helped/victorious” (manṣūr), and “the distressed one” (muḍṭarr) have been so applied. Narrations that convey an esoteric instance of a verse evolves over time. This final category includes terms such as “the remnant of God” (Baqiyyat Allāh), “the Hour” (sā‘ah), “the straight path” (ṣirāṭ sawiyy), “an abandoned well” (bi’r mu‘aṭṭalah), “a shining star” (kawkab durriyy), “water” (mā’), “dawn” (fajr), “the odd/even counterpart” (watr), “forenoon” (ḍuḥā), and “day” (nahār) have been applied to Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him).
